WHY IT MATTERS

Most change fails because the brain perceives it as a threat.

Leaders are trained to plan and manage change, but most are never taught how the brain responds to it. This course gives you that neuroscience and turns it into practical ways to lead yourself and others through change.

The brain resists change.

Change sets off a threat response before reason catches up. Leading through it starts with understanding that reaction.

Managing isn't leading.

Plans and timelines move tasks. People move when someone leads them through the uncertainty change brings.

New habits fade fast.

Without deliberate rewiring, teams slide back to old ways. Change only holds when it becomes the norm.

Leading Change is one of three eFOCUS electives, and any one of them completes that step in the Certificate in Applied Leadership, a pathway to a designation jointly awarded with Royal Roads University.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN

Lead yourself and others through change.

By the end, you'll have a personal Leading Change plan and the confidence to lead change with the brain in mind. You'll be able to:
  • Recognize why the brain resists change, and respond to it
  • Reframe change from threat to opportunity, for yourself and your team
  • Use neuroplasticity to build new habits that hold
  • Embed change so new ways of working become the norm
APPLIED TO YOUR WORK
Each module comes with practical tools you can use right away, for your own development and with your team.
You apply each step to a change you're leading now, so you're using it while you learn.
THE A.R.R.T. MODEL™

Four steps, grounded in neuroscience.

A brain-based framework for leading change. Each step builds on the last, from understanding why the brain resists change to making the new way stick.

1

Accept

Understand the brain's resistance
Resistance to change is natural, because the brain is wired to protect the status quo. This module explains why the brain defaults to resistance and how to move yourself and others from apprehension to openness.
2

Reframe

Turn threat into possibility
The meaning you assign to change determines how you lead through it. This module helps you shift that meaning, for yourself and your team, from seeing change as a threat to seeing its value or possibility.
3

Rewire

Build new habits deliberately
Neuroplasticity means the brain can adapt, but it takes deliberate effort. This module gives you practical strategies to build new habits and support your team in doing the same, so new ways of thinking and working take hold.
4

Transform

Make the new way the norm
Sustainable change isn't about a single initiative. It's about new thinking becoming part of how you and your team operate every day. This module gives you the tools to embed the change so it becomes the new norm.

FOR TEAMS

Move through change together.

Leading Change works particularly well for teams facing a restructure, a systems conversion, or a new way of working. When a team shares one framework, the conversations about a hard transition start from the same place. Shorter versions are available for broader employee groups, so you can roll the same thinking out across your organization.

Shared language.

Your leaders work from the same A.R.R.T. framework, so conversations about a hard transition start from common ground.

Credential pathway.

Leading Change counts toward the Certificate in Applied Leadership, giving your team a clear roadmap and credentials that recognize their growth.

Consistent at scale.

Each leader applies the same four modules to their own team and context, so everyone receives the same training no matter how many people you enroll.
